Tax March Applauds House Democrats for H.R. 1 Provision Regarding Public Access to Presidential Candidates’ Tax Returns

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the release of H.R. 1, which includes requirements for presidential candidates to release their tax returns, Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint released the following statement on behalf of the Not One Penny coalition:

“Donald Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns continues to damage our democracy each and every day. He has shattered American norms of transparency and left the public in the dark about his conflicts of interest. It is time to turn a former bedrock principle of American presidential elections into law so this never happens again.

“H.R. 1 is ambitious and sweeping legislation that will make American elections more ethical—and these good-government reforms are vital to the health of our nation.”
