New GOP Tax Proposal Puts Wealthy Corporations First…Again

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Late last night, Republican Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady released a new tax proposal that once again puts the wealthy ahead of working Americans. In response, Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint released the following statement on behalf of the Not One Penny coalition:

“The GOP’s new tax proposal is yet another affront to working families struggling to make ends meet. For generations, the Republican economic agenda has been designed to benefit the very wealthy at the expense of everyone else—and this new tax proposal is no different.

“Republicans in Congress lied about who last year’s tax bill would benefit. Their attempt to sell it to Americans failed and the public saw it for exactly what it was—a giant handout to the rich. Now, Chairman Brady has unveiled his latest attempt to rig the tax code without warning and without consulting his Democratic colleagues. This so-called ‘glitch fix’ legislation showcases once again that Republicans are concerned only with catering to wealthy corporations and their bottom line.

“The American people sent a message in the midterm elections that they do not support cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy. Lawmakers must listen to these voters and oppose this tax bill.”
