STATEMENT: McConnell Shows GOP’s Intentions to Pay for Tax Cuts By Gutting Public Programs

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell just admitted that the GOP plans to cut Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare to fund the massive tax breaks Republicans gave to the wealthiest individuals and largest corporations. In response, Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint released the following statement:

“Despite McConnell’s lies, the ballooning federal deficit is a Republican problem—one created when they gave millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations $1.5 trillion in tax cuts. Now, people who work for a living and seniors are paying the price for the GOP’s deception.

“Until this law is repealed and the rich start paying their fair share, Republicans like Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell will continue to threaten cuts to Medicare and Social Security so they can give their wealthy and well-connected donors billions more in tax breaks.

“But on November 6, voters have a critical opportunity to hold Republicans in Congress accountable for the damage their tax law has caused done to our families and our economy—and they must take it.”
