WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tax Day, ahead of a Capitol Hill rally with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Tax March Executive Director Nicole Gill released the following statement on behalf of the Not One Penny coalition:
“This tax day, the American people are making it clear that they have rejected the Republican tax plan and are going to hold those who supported it accountable.
“Republicans are running away from their so-called legislative achievement because of how wildly unpopular it is. Over the last year, the American people have rallied through the rain, marched in the streets, and called on Congress to demand a tax code that works for working families—and we won’t stop now.
“Despite Republicans’ promises, the American people know that this law was written by and for the wealthy, not for working families. This law givesmassive tax breaks to the richest families and wealthiest corporations while raising taxes on 92 million middle-class households, stripping health care away from 13 million people, and and threatening critically-needed services like Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and public education.
“While the GOP continues their attack on the middle class, we cannot and will not let Republicans in Washington threaten the health and financial security of American families in order to enrich themselves and their donors. We will continue showing up and speaking out until the TrumpTax is repealed.”
