Washington, D.C. — Not One Penny spokesperson Tim Hogan released the following statement on Vice President Pence’s visit to Wisconsin today:

“As Vice President Mike Pence visits Milwaukee today to tout the benefits of ‘tax reform,’ he’ll have to reconcile with the fact that, since the GOP tax bill passed, nearly 5,000 workers across Wisconsin have gotten pink slips. The billions of dollars in tax breaks for corporations clearly aren’t trickling down to Wisconsin families, and the Vice President owes answers to the thousands of working people throughout the state of Wisconsin who are now being told their jobs are going away.”

KEY FACTS:

  • According to official state WARN data, 4,883 WI workers have been notified of mass layoffs since the passage of the GOP tax bill, including 1,341 in Milwaukee County.

  • Just as AT&T learned it was receiving $20.3 billion in tax cuts for 2017 as a result of the GOP tax bill, the company announced layoffs of hundreds of workers in Wisconsin and across the Midwest.

  • Layoff numbers in Wisconsin are likely even higher than what’s recorded in the state’s WARN data, which only documents mass layoffs.
