Democrats Must Seek to Obtain and Release Trump’s Tax Returns

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following Democrats’ history-making victories in today’s midterm elections and Democrats taking control of Congress, Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint released the following statement on behalf of the Not One Penny coalition:

“The GOP had one legislative achievement, a tax bill they could not campaign on. In a leaked memo, the GOP themselves even admitted that they had lost the messaging battle—and they deserved to. From day one, the American people saw this tax law for the scam that it is. Tonight, voters across the country held Republicans accountable for forcing through massive tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations at the expense of working people.

“Across the country, voters told Republicans that their tax law was an abject failure and gave Democrats an electoral mandate to repeal it. The public made it clear that they want lawmakers who will fight for working families and end the culture of corruption that led to this shameful tax law.

“From obtaining and releasing Donald Trump’s tax returns to investigating the quid-pro-quo that resulted in this dangerously unbalanced tax law, a Democratic Congress must continue holding Republicans accountable for enriching corporations and the wealthy at the expense of working families. We look forward to working together to create a fair economy that works for all Americans.”

Since launching in August 2017, the Not One Penny coalition has mobilized activists and advocates across the country to hold Republicans accountable for their disastrous tax plan. From hosting more than 1,200 events to a robust paid media program, the coalition successfully educated millions of voters about the harm caused by the GOP’s tax law.
