Washington, D.C. — After House Republicans doubled down on their efforts to give massive tax cuts to millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations, the Not One Penny Campaign hosted events across Wisconsin highlighting widespread opposition to the GOP tax plan. With stops in Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Appleton, and Green Bay this past weekend, the campaign is lifting up the message that elected officials should give “not one penny” in tax cuts for the wealthy and well-connected at the expense of working families.

The events in Wisconsin are part of a larger national push in opposition to the GOP proposals. Over the last month, in mobilizing against Republicans’ disastrous tax plan, the Not One Penny coalition has coordinated more than a hundred events and actions across the country to hold congressional Republicans accountable for pushing tax cuts for the wealthy on the backs of working families. Alongside Americans for Tax Fairness, Indivisible, MoveOn.org, Organizing for Action, Tax March, and dozens of other groups, the coalition is planning more events and grassroots activity to stop Republicans from raising taxes on middle-class families to give tax breaks to millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations.

Below are some key clips from the past weekend in Wisconsin:

Not One Penny campaign tours Northeast Wisconsin

A local group toured the area this weekend – with a display calling attention to President Donald Trump.

The “Not One Penny” Campaign traveled from Fond du Lac to Oshkosh to Appleton to Green Bay on Saturday. The group toured with a giant inflatable chicken, meant to represent the president.

The group says its mission is to demand that Wisconsin’s elected officials give “not one penny more” in tax cuts to the wealthy.

Dozens came out to join the group, with plenty of others showing support or disagreement with protests.

“We’ve gotten a lot of different responses. Everything from horns being honked, to certain gestures you would not put on the air,” says event organizer Brian Eisold. “A lot of it has been positive. The more that people learn about what’s in the tax bill, the more they’re against it.”

Last week, the House voted to approve the Tax Reform Bill.

“Not One Penny” plans more protests as the bill makes its way through Washington.

Protestors of GOP tax plan bring message, inflatable Trump chicken to Wisconsin

A group protesting the GOP’s tax reform bill visited Wisconsin this weekend, and they used a giant inflatable chicken to represent President Donald Trump.

The “Not One Penny” Campaign traveled from Fond du Lac to Oshkosh to Appleton to Green Bay on Saturday, WBAY-TV reported.

Organizers said their mission is to demand that Wisconsin’s elected officials give “not one penny more” in tax cuts to the wealthy.

“We’ve gotten a lot of different responses. Everything from horns being honked, to certain gestures you would not put on the air,” event organizer Brian Eisold told WBAY. “A lot of it has been positive. The more that people learn about what’s in the tax bill, the more they’re against it.”

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed with a 227-205 vote Thursday as the Republican-controlled Congress seeks a major legislative victory before the year ends. A similar Senate bill is being marked-up but has hurdles to overcome.

“Not One Penny” plans more protests as the bill makes its way through Washington.
